Joe began swimming at the age of 8 and continued through high school, starting his journey with Arizona Disabled Sports before joining Swim Neptune. He swam for Desert Vista High School from 2010 to 2014, and after graduating, earned a spot on Team USA for the 2014 Para Pan American Games.
From 2014 to 2018, Joe attended the University of Missouri on a wheelchair basketball scholarship. During this time, he was inducted into the Desert Vista High School Sports Hall of Fame. He went on to earn a master’s degree in Sport Psychology from Florida State University in 2020.
Since returning to Arizona, Joe has worked as a swim coach, wheelchair basketball coach, and personal trainer at Ability360 in Phoenix, where he has coached athletes at both the local and national levels.
Coach Joe Cyr is a former national diver with several regional and provincial championship finishes and top 10 national finishes. He trained with Canada’s national team athletes and coached alongside world champions and Olympic coaches. With nearly 30 years of teaching and coaching diving from beginners of all ages to national level competitors. Joe continues to develop DV’s JV and Varsity teams and aspires to influence the next generation of national level athletes with Sun Devil Divers.
